Eileen and I on set
To God Be the Glory!!! I had the BUSIEST of weeks with my third appearance on ABC7’s “Good Morning Washington” AND my first event From Drama to Destiny™ Live two days later!!! What was I thinking?!? LOL, but God! This segment was about phasing out the dream snatchers lurking in your life. Here’s the replay in case you missed it:
Kenya on Good Morning Washington
We’ve all worked with Debbie Downer, Negative Nancy, or Gloomy Gus. Unfortunately, they’re among our friends and family too. They’re toxic and they don’t know they’re toxic. I like to call them dream snatchers. They’re like a thief in the night. When they get a whiff of your dream, they’re telling you about their friend, who is now homeless, after hitting rough times in their business. From some, you’ll get the silent treatment with no reaction. And others will be so consumed in their own unfulfilled life, they aren’t really listening to what excites you. Dream snatchers come to steal your joy and rob you of fulfilling your destiny. So how do we tune them out for good?
The following are my tips for Phasing Out the Dream Snatchers So They Won’t Rob Your Joy:
1. Identify the dream snatcher – How do you feel when you’re around this person? Do they drain you? Are they encouraging and inspiring? Does your blood pressure rise? Do you avoid spending time with them? These are some of the questions you should ask yourself when trying to identify a dream snatcher.
2. Avoid and shift the negative energy – Your life (and dreams) depend on avoiding the negative energy the dream snatcher brings. Negativity is transferrable. One moment, you’re happy and feeling like you’re on top of the world, and after a dream snatcher encounter, you can become sad, doubtful, and ready to throw in the towel. Some tactics include, not answering their phone calls to shifting the energy of a conversation.
3. Keep your dreams to yourself – Just finished a huge presentation or novel and can’t wait to share it only to have someone shoot it down? Save yourself the pain, disappointment, and drama and keep your dreams to a trusted small circle of 1—yourself. There can be at least one or two trusted persons you can share your dreams with but share with caution. Those who are unhappy with themselves and their life will not be ready to encourage and support you.
4. Surround yourself with like-minded people – Stay around those who will encourage and celebrate you and your dreams. They will make sure that you stay the course and not give up. Look to those who are wise and tell you the truth without being pessimistic. There’s a quote that says, “If you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room.”
5. Keep moving – With every step you take you are drowning out everyone who said you couldn’t. Celebrate your big wins to feel accomplished, feel good about yourself and your progress.
Me celebrating after the TV interview!
That’s where I come in. I invite you to talk about it with me in a discovery session. The new year is coming–ready or not! Let’s implement a strategy to put in place BEFORE 2020 to get you on the path where God is leading you to make impact.
Finally, the day of my event came! No Dream Snatchers were allowed ;). It was a HUGE success! I stepped into destiny and it felt AHHMAZING! Here are a few moments from the event. [see photos]
This event would not have happened if I didn’t get out of my own way, didn’t leave my comfort zone, and didn’t make a decision to stop procrastinating and stop playing small. Do you see yourself in any of these self-sabotaging behaviors?
Take the leap! There’s nothing like it on earth!
Blessings!
