I pray your week is going well. I went to see The Little Mermaid opening weekend with my family! Let’s just say I want to see it again, and I’ve been singing ever since, haha. Melissa McCarthy played Ursula so well I didn’t want her in our photo, lol. And, of course, Halle Bailey, who played Ariel, was a dreeeeam!
Amid the singing, dance numbers, beautiful costumes, and underwater magic, some valuable life lessons emerged to the surface. The most important one that I couldn’t wait to share is about your voice. SPOILER ALERT AHEAD!
Ariel wanted to be human so badly that she sold her beauuutiful singing voice to the evil sea squid, Ursula, in exchange for legs. She wanted to be “part of that world”– as the popular song title is beautifully sung. So, she made a deal with the devil. But it wasn’t quite what she bargained for because Ursula added an undisclosed twist to an already evil bargain. Isn’t that what the enemy tries to do with us? The enemy lures us in with our longing to be part of some world, part of some “friend” group, part of some romantic relationship, part of some trend, and part of the glitz and glamour. What we don’t know is that it’s all a trick, and we’re not meant to escape. Ursula took advantage of Ariel’s longing and had no intention of giving Ariel her voice back, making it nearly impossible for it to happen. Thanks to help from a crab and a bird, Ariel was victorious and got her voice back, but what about us? The enemy does not want to release us from his clutches. He is the greatest trickster there is. BUT GOD.

We always have the power to get our voices back, thanks to Jesus! The enemy is after our voice because it is our weapon. And we’re never too far gone for Him to reach down and rescue us from the pit we’re in no matter how long we’ve been there. Your voice is your special sauce. It makes you unique, exceptional, and valuable, and it’s your responsibility to use your voice to tell your story to help others who need encouragement to find their way and their own voice.
My sister, Aundra, is using her voice. She wrote and published two AMAZING books in the pandemic (talk about focus!). She is having an event, Core Keys for Bringing Forth your Book Today! for those who want to write and release their book. I’m honored that she has invited yours truly to talk about my book-writing experience too. If you’re in the DMV area or want to travel for the day, we’d love to see you at this God-inspired event! It’s happening in person on Saturday, June 24th @ 3 p.m.
