Hello there!
I’m so grateful to have attended my cousin Victoria’s graduation from Wesleyan University in Connecticut last week! She has always been special to me. When I was a teen, her mom (my favorite aunt), had surgery, and I was her babysitter for the summer. I’ll never forget how she yelled, “Eeenya!” from the crib, when trying to get my attention, because she couldn’t pronounce the “K”. But look at her now, a young woman ready to conquer the world! One thing is for sure, she couldn’t get through years of school without discipline, hard work, dedication and people in her corner. In other words, she had the eye of the tiger. What is the eye of the tiger?
The eye of the tiger is that never-ending drive. It’s that’s surge of energy you get when trying to complete a goal. You’re focused on nothing else but that thing and you can taste the rewards of it. Distractions may come and try to take you off track but you’re unfazed because there’s something down deep that’s fueling you to keep going.
Would you like to have the eye of the tiger? That’s how we become when we’re pursuing our purpose. I’m ashamed to say that if my bestie didn’t plan my 40th b’day bash for me this past April, I don’t know what I would have done because I was so focused on my business. You may be thinking that’s awful and believe me I did wonder if something was wrong with me—haha. But the best way I can describe it is that I’m working in my purpose and well—I just love it! With that said, we have to be careful with working too much because we don’t want to miss out on times with family and friends that create lasting memories. But there will be times when we have to shut out all of the distractions and miss out on some social events to meet our goals. I’m sure my cousin had to do this very thing when events such as parties and the like tried to pull her away from her studies. She had to buckle down and be immovable. It’s the same with our purpose, when we find out what it is, we become a magnet to it—not wanting to let go. We develop the eye of the tiger.
