“Flashdance” – Paramount Pictures
Last week I saw the movie Flashdance. I loved that movie growing up! The year was 1983 and I was almost nine-years-old. It is NOT a movie for young eyes and ears (lol), but what stood out for me is that the girl had a dream! The main character in this movie worked in a steel mill by day and was a dancer in a bar by night. It was a reminder that no matter how you start out, God has the last say so. Remember Esther in the Bible? She and the king weren’t exactly “waiting” to get married before they had sex. The Bible says that Esther was born “…for such a time as this…” God had already chosen Esther to be queen knowing what she would do in her life.
God chose you too.
Decide.
Jennifer Beals’ character in the movie grew out of the place she was in. Her eyes were set on bigger things. She didn’t let her current circumstances, actions or people dictate who she was. The yearning to be and want more overpowered her.
The Opportunity.
She almost missed the opportunity to win. She felt like she had to earn an audition to this prestigious dance school all by herself with no help. She initially rejected help from her boyfriend because he knew people on the board of the dance school. This is where we can get tripped up too. I know you want to be able to say, “I did this on my own” but the truth of the matter is that we all need each other. God can use anyone—and I mean anyone, to get you to the place He is calling you.
Go for it.
Once she realized that it was ok to accept help, she punched fear and pride in the face and showed up! All of her training and life experiences were coming together for this one moment and it exploded in the audition. She didn’t come to the audition a replica of someone else. The judges were bored until she splashed her own special sauce into the routine. They were mesmerized by her and her moves! Electricity filled the atmosphere and it was contagious!

What a feeling it is to be used by God! His purpose for your life will take you places you’ve only dreamed of when you take your passion and make it happen. Bein’ is believin’ when you trust that He will be with you every step of the way. He makes the pictures come alive as you give your dreams to Him. You will dance like crazy for His glory when His light is shining on the inside of you.

Let’s do this!
That’s what God will do with your life when you decide, grab your opportunity, punch fear (and pride) in the face and go for it!
My current client Tanisha decided. Life was crazy around her and she decided to jump anyhow. It’s paying off. She’s learning about what He has put on the inside of her and it’s exciting! After our time together she will be unstoppable!
I had to share some excerpts from the theme song of Flashdance called, “What A Feeling.” It won an Oscar for Best Original Song!
