Same old problems in 2025?

Prayer works, period. When you couple prayer with fasting—it’s life-changing! I’ll never forget when I did a 21-day fast at the top of 2023. I had been worried about the physical structure of my home with good reason and a host of other things. On the first day of the fast, I heard the Holy Spirit whisper, “It’s all smoke and mirrors.” I quickly went to look up the phrase that I was familiar with.

Oxford Languages and Google’s definition is “the obscuring or embellishing of the truth of a situation with misleading or irrelevant information.” Wow. In other words, stop worrying because what you think is going on is not. The enemy was planting fear and using it to distract me from what I needed to be focused on. The lie was struck down immediately! That was on Day One. So, imagine how the rest of the fast went. That devil was running!

I’ll be praying for you. May our God give you what you stand in the need of. May He heal you, and give you direction, protection, fresh vision, new perspective, and revelation in this season. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

I feel led to close out with these lyrics from the song Way Maker written by Sinach. It heals and calms me every time.

Let me guess, you were looking forward to the new year, but somehow your problems decided to stick around. Am I right? UGH. You’re not the only one, believe me. Sometimes, we can pray and pray, and it seems like nothing is happening. I can write boldly that when you pray AND fast, something happens.

Matthew Chapter 17 comes to mind when we find out that the disciples couldn’t heal a demon-possessed boy. When Jesus rebuked the demon, it came out of the boy, and he was healed at that moment (vs. 18). The disciples asked Jesus why they weren’t able to do it. Verses 20 and 21 sheds some light:

So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” Matthew 17:20-21 (NKJV)

Don’t feel bad if you don’t get excited about praying and denying yourself of your favorite things and comforts. It’s completely normal. We must fight to do it—fight to discipline ourselves. It’s worth it. The answer to your problems, the way to your breakthrough or blessing, could come over the next day or weeks when you pray, believe, AND fast. Remember, this is God we’re talking about—God of the universe. Get Him out of the box! He can do it, and He will honor your sacrifice. Try Him!

Matthew 6:6 gives us good news: “But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.”
